Sculpt part 1

Where does the time go... I turn around and days and weeks fly by...

This is the first time i've tried a sculpt, we're gonna make a Hellboy statue. So far my understanding is that you make a wire frame(a skeleton) with the armature wire, the twisting/wrapping adds support. The one thing i'm watching out for is balance, i'd like him to be able to stand on his own without a peg support. Hellboy's tail is going to double as a stand so that everything down there acts like a tripod. Before adding clay we may need to stuff him with balled up tape or something to add bulk to the figure...

Ok that's it fir this part, frame pictures are below. :)

Supplies:
-Aluminum Armature Wire
-Super Sculpey FIRM Gray- One Pound
-Tape

Aluminum foil works best for bulking up the wireframe.

Hey, I've been enjoying your blog for some time and it's nice to see you're updating again. For the sculpt I would recommend aluminum foil as well, and compress it really tight. That way it won't change shape once you start adding sculpey as well as when baking which causes cracks. You may also want to get a base for it so you can hold/flip/turn the maquette while sculpting without damaging previously finished areas, this is best done by drilling a hole in the base and having the armature go through it and wrapping around a screw you've drilled into the opposite side to really lock it down. Looking forward to seeing the final product.

Thanks for the tips guys, I dunno if it'll cause problems but i'm going to remove the small amount of tape that i used just in case. It'll probably be more sound if the whole structure is bolted together by the armature.

I haven't found too many thorough tutorials on how to do one of these sculpts. Guess we're gonna see the trial and error on this sucker.

To be your fist time, is awesome, I mean I've seen people that have tried to make something similar with catastrophic results.
