Finally had an idea to flesh her out... I'm thinking of a cross between a sea siren and an albatross... in space.

I benched myself from drawing for a while, pinched nerve around the funny bones... a kind of carpal tunnel. Before, i liked to draw on a stool, hovering over the drawing in an arm wrestling kind of position. I even keep an old scarf on the desk to rest my elbow, but i was just putting too much pressure down on that area for the amount of time i spend drawing. Half of my hands started to go numb, the same feeling when you sleep on something for too long but without the needles. So i switched to a more relaxed position, a chair with a back, and less elbow up on the desk. Problem solved.

Haven't seen bride, I think what happened was that Frank accidentally killed a woman and the doctor brought her back to life. Odds are they'd probably be clawing and biting at each other in this situation.

I don't remember this story. Was Frank a zombie or did his organs function? I don't remember if he was a moving corpse or one big organ transplant from fresh bodies.

I don't watch a whole lot of TV, just a handful of programs... Charlie Rose, 24, Lost, and Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Tv season is about to roll around again and Tscc got itself cancelled somehow. After seeing one or two episodes it easily became my favorite. The show takes place before judgement day when Connor was a teen, the usual happens, a terminator travels back in time to get him and another to protect him.

The show wasn't so predictable, it was an entertaining character driven show, they didnt just rehash the movies but instead explored deeper into that whole terminator world. Summer Glau's terminator, Cameron, was just a lot of fun to watch. There's one episode that sticks out in my mind where Cameron gets damaged, forgets that she's a terminator, and becomes a regular human girl that has lost her memory. It's really interesting because she's constantly practicing and learning to be more human and as soon as the program fails a personality emerges that is genuine. I don't want to spoil anything... It's a great series, i recommend it, hopefully a 3rd season will happen.

Mr. Mifune

He's a new character that's been floating around in my head for a while. To cut it down into the shortest of summaries, his story is about a Yokozuna, three time grand champion, that offends a witch. The witch is so offended that she puts a curse on the sumo... if he wrestles again he'll turn into the animal he enjoys to eat the most. Most of the story i have in mind is of him living out in the countryside.

I haven't decided which animal yet... it would have to be one that could store a lot of fat.

Hope no one minds the camera, i still need to learn it... the lighting is bright in the room but its not picking up pencil so shap. Flash shots white out everything. I had an idea, wouldn't it be great in the future if you could copy what you want into the pc just by rubbing it on your screen. If you wanted to get a picture into the pc just hold it up to your screen and hit the copy button and a mirror image would show up like an ink stain. No scanning or light bulbs, just the impression left... as if pressure screens could pick up your fingerprint, like that, a direct transfer without having to deal with lighting issues. I might be thinking of the willy wonka machine.

Adding more later. Also, something worth listening to... havent heard anything that sounds this pretty in a long while... beautiful take on the song, AMAPOLA.

Robin reminds me a bit of a lost puppy. Batgirl and Robin don't really make much sense in reality, why would anyone bring a kid along to beat up criminals... but in the comic they add a lot to the idea of batman. To think that he's so far gone that if wayne has any additional family so does batman. Wayne takes grayson in because he felt sorry for him, they share a similar story, but turning him into robin was just the mental illness taking over. There's more to it than just helping Grayson get revenge, if that was it then there's no way he would continue to put a child in that kind of danger. The problem is that batman isn't in his right mind, if Wayne has a son then the demon needs one too. Plus he's great for selling more books to kids.

I still get mixed results when drawing straight into the pc, the slickness of the tablet changes things...

Does batman need armor? No, not really. I think it would be nice to see the classic gray and black suit in live action in a non campy way. In the movies he's been turning up in a full body thick padded or full body heavily plated bullet resistant suit, and that makes sense i guess. With the old gray and black, I always thought that the darker parts of his suit were the protected areas, the bullet resistant armor. If that cape is wrapped around him isn't that enough, plus the shorts to protect the tender bits. Also, following that thinking would make the chest symbol added protection instead of just decoration. Is it even possible to have a material that can resist fire arms and knives and still be that light and fluid? I wasn't sure so i did a quick search on body armor and got a big maybe as an answer.

Pretty interesting. During the late 1920s through the early 1930s, gunmen from criminal gangs in the United States began wearing less-expensive vests made from thick layers of cotton padding and cloth. These early vests could absorb the impact of handgun rounds such as .22 Long Rifle, .25 ACP, .32 S&W Long, .32 S&W, .380 ACP, and .45 ACP traveling at speeds of up 300 m/s (1000 ft/s). So, why the hell not, it's fiction anyway. The picture below is an example, taken in the 1920's. Hard to believe a vest that thin can offer so much protection.

I really enjoyed the dark knight movie, it's as close to the long halloween or year one that we're probably going to get in live action. Loved every bit of it except for the fight scenes. Somehow fightscenes in batman movies tend to get muddled to the point where you can't tell what's going on... they're probably cutting corners to try and not make the suit look silly. Well i take that back, you can tell what's going on but there's never really an objective behind them besides getting a few thugs out of the way, pretty meaningless. Seems like just a few quick cut shots of people getting slapped in the face.

The first blocking in form, he's starting to show up. The clay is so soft that just holding it makes an impression so i'm trying to get over shaping one area without disturbing another. When i was trying to shape and round out the shoulder i ended up molding the chest and belly, compacting the clay into the body, making him thinner. So i had to scrape it off and try again. Applying it in small strips is a good careful way to build without being destructive. Once i get his basic shape down i'm guessing it's best to start working from head to toe

I'm using an empty picture frame(glass taken out) for the working base. It's nice because its a portable workspace and its large enough so I don't have to worry about getting clay all over the place, the board is very solid, and it's cheap.

Trial and error. Since the sculpey was dried out i picked up some FIMO. I tested the structure out by loading it up, blocking out the shapes and it collapsed. The tail and feet needed to be reinforced since the figure is so top heavy. I also added a wire frame support stand in his back to make life easier but he still stands on his own so i'm happy.

Blogger doesn't want to cooperate tonight, there's an error with adding pictures.

Make sure that you buy puddy in the art store so that you can check the package for freshness. I ordered my puddy online and have a feeling that its too firm, its stale. Not a problem though, someone needs to use it... a dab of oil should make it good as new.

On a side note, I've been playing with a slight handicap lately. Recently my brother's dog was being too aggressive towards another dog and when i went over to break it up he bit my hand. His tooth went right through the middle of my thumb nail on my drawing hand. Something similar happened about a year ago when my index finger(drawing hand again) got wedged in a can of dog food. The lid went into the can instead of out and my finger got caught between the lid edge and the can wall in a way that when i tried to pull the finger out the lid just sunk deeper into the finger. Now i'm no wimp, i've gone through broken bones and burns and everything but getting cut in a place where you need to constantly apply pressure just sucks. I'll admit, it slows me down.

Anyway, i completed the foil process on the sculpt tonight, i'll post some images when blogger is up again.

Ok this is a stronger restructure of the wire frame, not so pretty i know, but its sturdy. I think it's starting to look like the character already. Every M/W/F i'll work on the sculpt for about two hours and post the updated results.

Where does the time go... I turn around and days and weeks fly by...

This is the first time i've tried a sculpt, we're gonna make a Hellboy statue. So far my understanding is that you make a wire frame(a skeleton) with the armature wire, the twisting/wrapping adds support. The one thing i'm watching out for is balance, i'd like him to be able to stand on his own without a peg support. Hellboy's tail is going to double as a stand so that everything down there acts like a tripod. Before adding clay we may need to stuff him with balled up tape or something to add bulk to the figure...

I just got a little bit older. My birthday is on the 29th, not a bad day at all...

I spent the day reading WATCHMEN and working on a sculpture. Watchmen is every bit as good as all the reviews say it is, it's just really well written and the images are staged to compliment the writing. Good read.
I'll post a step by step of the sculpt, not finished yet but the parts are all blocked in. I'm using Super Sculpey FIRM, while it may be good for details, it's very difficult to knead.

Thanks to everyone that sent me a letter or posted while i stopped blogging, much appreciated. I'll start posting pictures again.

Kinda happy, finishing up a few things. New portfolio is almost done, and this week i finished my month long jury duty term. They selected me as a juror on a murder trial, even though it's over for me i'm not sure if or how much i'm allowed to say. I will say that it ended as a mistrial, not sure what that even means, legal jargon.

Not speaking of the case but just law in general... a mistrial from what i understand means the person is set free and the state can retry charges. What i'd like to know is if the person on trial is released or held in jail until whatever case is retried again. It's odd to think that criminals could be set free based on a mistake during trials, at the same time that could lead to crowded jails. Trials could take weeks or months to get back to court, do they hold possibly innocent people in jail for all that time? That's also unfair...

Ahh! We had a good run, made it all the way to the end but The Red Raja was just too tuff. My faca 3 fighter was Cannon Father, a hardass with a big mouth and big guns. Congrats to whoever did Red Raja, really cool character.

I figured Cannon Father was the type of guy that has been hardened by labor his whole life, thinking of the young kids forced to work in factories during the early 1900's. He's a mix of everything labor related... ship-hand, railway worker, coal miner, cannon operator. The guns, i never fully figured them out, they're not alive enough to run around and destroy everything but they are alive enough to follow his command to fire. They're his weapons, they can't think for themselves but i think it's best to leave some mystery to the relationship. Here's a little history on the term son of a gun.

When a Royal Navy vessel entered a port it was common for local prostitutes to visit the ship and elicit custom from the sailors. The sailors and prostitutes then had sexual relations, usually on one of the gun decks beside the many guns carried, one of the few places Able and Ordinary Seaman could obtain some sort of privacy. Should the prostitute subsequently fall pregnant by the sailor, she would then attempt to obtain compensation from the father or the navy for the upkeep of the child. This was usually not forthcoming and the father's name would be withheld. When it was fairly certain that the child had been conceived upon board one of His Majesty's vessels, the infant would be entered into the ship's records as 'child born to gun number X', the X denoting the gun position the sailor responsible for the errant behaviour was allocated-to, his name being omitted to maintain probity. These children born in this manner had no father's name on any official records and the male ones were referred to by knowing sailors as being 'sons of guns', a term denoting illegitimacy and contempt.

Even though faca 3 is over i still want to draw the guy. I think my fav character out of Faca3 was Murphy S. Law, just really sexy and tuff, she was great. Lord harm had the best smack talk i think, classy stuff. The strongest fighter was probably dewey, the whole concept is cool, he can basically trump just about anyone. Grats to Sam for the cool blog, i dunno if i'll play in Faca4, don't have a team yet.

Combat
What Traction lacks in strength he makes up for in technique, this autobot doesnt carry a blaster, instead he favors CQC. Traction is known for dismantling enemy bots at the joints and smacking them with their own limbs, most decepticons prefer to strike the old bot from the air.

What can i say about the Transformers movie, it just wasnt for me i guess. ILM did an amazing job, all the actors played their parts well, the movie can be entertaining... they just excluded too much for my taste. The highway scene was fantastic though...

I wonder if they even watched any of the transformers... Prime hiding under a bridge? Really? Aww crap they've got a helicopter, every bot for himself! They watch Bumblebee get taken down in a situation where any of them could just flick people out of the way. Also, I don't really understand the pimp my ride stuff.

It would have been great to see them interact with each other, alot of the old cartoon is them standing around talking. Maybe they'll try and show more of what makes the series great in the next movie. They really need to go back and look over how to show those relationships because showing big moving robots isnt enough.

G1 bots are the best, here's one of my own, Traction... an old Studebaker, one of the older bots, not as strong as he is durable, a wiz at strategy- believes a good plan is better than offense or defense, tends to joke at the wrong moments.

Well here's the rundown on Traction. Took a while to settle on a head, most of the old bots have a mix of gladiator and space age helmet type heads, this guy is a bit knightly. I like him, i'll scan some doodles later to give a better sense.

Well i switched my lighting to those more environment friendly bulbs always talked about, i think they're just softer/lower watt, 10 instead of 60-100. The major difference is that they give off a blue hue instead of that bright yellow or white light, actually it's a bit like the opening scene from Joe VS the Volcano... it'll take some getting use to... worth it... but it'll take some getting use to...

The comic is coming along ok i guess, the first story stretches out to about 4-5 books, i'm happy with 1/3 of the first part that's down. My biggest problem is learning how to settle with a drawing, i'm the type that will go back and stress out about doing it better. I'm reminded of a time, must have been 11yrs old, when i signed on to do a school project of drawing a banner sized stop sign. Thinking back on it i should have, would have made more sense, just freehanded the whole thing and been done in an afternoon, but instead i spent days trying to measure out the perfect 5ft octagon. Each day sneering at it, nope could be a little more even, think i should start over. The whole point was so that no one would judge it negatively, who did the shoddy stop sign, but there's a point when you have to let that go and be ok with doing your best. I've found out that it's easy to get stuck on something that way, sometimes its better to accept where you are and worry about improving the next drawing, just so that you keep moving forward. Get the form down and move to the next one. In the end the 1st graders appreciated the outline and markered/crayoned in the whole thing... wasn't a loss though, it looked great. Honestly, i think another reason the sign took so long was i enjoyed hanging out with a friend back then, wonder what she's upto now.

Poor sweet Yori, always on the run from Master Control. Watched TRON recently, still an awesome movie... there should be a tron game that plays something like Metal Gear Solid or Tenchu... something where you sneak around, knock out other programs (drain their power), fight Master Control soldiers, use that cool disk weapon, free systems... I'd play it just for the cool weapon animations... would be awesome... somebody go make that plz... we need it...

I just saw a detailed review of the Iphone and something started to bug me. What was troubling me? I'm glad you asked. Well with all the service charges stacking up, the $100 at&t plan, having to send it in to apple to recharge the battery(probably a fee), the $30 service charge fee of turning it on, and who knows what other hidden charges, i got the feeling that this was excessive. SURE it's a nifty little media device, little more you could add onto it, maybe videogames. It also has GPS, yah, you can find out where you are at any time, a constant road map in your palm, that's almost as good as a swiss army pocket knife. The problem i saw was that the features costing people hundreds of dollars are basically for phone and internet, two things that i believe (in my perfect world) should be free.

Phone service is one of those things that is basic, if someone needs help that's your goto service. I think it would be great if people could live without having their pockets squeezed for basic needs. Certain things tied to keeping you alive and well should be free of cost, things like health care, clean water, electricity, gas, the internet. Wouldn't it be great if those type things were available to everyone and running simply for the benefit of mankind instead of profit.

I'm reminded of the time when i thought i had a small heart attack. I went to the hospital, they ran 3 tests, i talked to two people, they charged me $1200. They didn't do a thing to me, she told me i was perfectly healthy. The cause was narrowed down to a panic/anxiety attack, too stressed out. But what the hell, do EKG tests run on $400 paper? $1200 for someone to tell me i'm healthy... it's expensive just to look at people.

Anyway, i think the I-Phone is a neat gadget, even though i don't want one... I personally don't enjoy talking on the phone, never have...

That's the bit, i like it... clipped a few parts out though just to get to the point... small parts like seeing the guy try and reload his gun, watching her side dive to her shot, and seeing the guy's feet slide into frame at the end. :)

Hannie enlists the aid of bounty hunter Tom Price to teach her how to be a gunfighter so she can hunt down the 3 bandit brothers who killed her husband, raped her, and burned down the couple's farm.

Hannie Caulder, i think this was the first Welch movie i'd evern zeen... was surprised on how good it was... it's a revenge tale and for some reason just by the way it plays out, i wasn't exactly sure she'd make it to the end. My Welch face still needs work...

Favorite Bond Girl? Tiffany Case/Jill St.John

Tonight's doodle... I got the feeling that by the end of the movie Case becomes somewhat of a pleasant pain in the butt to Bond. Things get a bit confusing at the end with the tape cassette. Does bond really switch it, or does Case, does he put the real one back knowing Case would screw up the plans, or does she manage to fix her mistake before she gets caught? It was also difficult to tell if she had accepted the bad guys or was simply waiting for the right time to foil their plans, whichever way saved her own hide i suppose... she's kinda like Catwoman. Anyway, the movie is worth a look and its pretty dam adorable watching her fire a machine gun. She was great in Tony Rome too.

I think Jill St.John fit into that club back then with Jane Fonda and Raquel Welch. They were smart, super attractive, and they all were very womanly. I dunno what you'd call it, something in their voice and attitude... it was mature. Anne Curry on the Today show has it too.

I have a painting commission i really need to finish so i'll have a talk update tonight, work before play and all that stuff...

Recently i came across some vids on youtube of game music performances, some of it by orchestra but mostly its of people at home with personal instruments. This has really made my week, this concert in particular, Tour de Japon, music from Final Fantasy. Nobuo Uematsu is the composer responsible for much of the music in the Final Fantasy series, i'm not sure but i think this concert was only available to his fanclub members in Japan. Anyone who has played the games knows how special the music is, it's part of the charm and this song is a fav of mine. The Oath from FFVIII, so much emotion comes through...

Looking for the henchmen... was undecided on if i wanted to post this or not. I think this guy is a bad idea, close but no, he looks like Frankenstein's grandpa. At first i thought it would be cool to have all the henchmen look like old scruffy Englishmen, but just maybe not this old.

Well i missed the update last night but i saw Grindhouse! What a fun movie, i didnt care for all of planet terror but it had plenty of cool stuff in it, and deathproof was awesome from start to finish... both great. I think part of the fun is that you really don't know where the story is going in these movies, specially with deathproof. Favorite part, i'd have to say those silly bits where kurt russel looks directly into the camera, that really made me laugh.

From the comments, rajesh mentioned a purple girl would look decent, i think the color is a bit unsettling for skin, but lets see anyway :) ... almost there to what i have in mind, also want her to have a bit of an overbite.

Haha snort haha, not funny i know...

I actually really enjoyed Casino Royale, it was different, they took all the clicheness out where it was needed, though i would love to see campy villains return... names like goldfinger, oddjob, and pussy galore. That's the only thing that bothered me in Royale, by the end of the story the bad guy you end up hating turns out to only be a small-fry middle man. For the record, i think the list goes like this...

I had to edit the last post. Ever draw something and think its great, then come back to it not even five minutes later and want to burn the thing? I was so satisfied but after a later review all the problems with it just hit me in the face... just bad from head to toe. I thought about making a post to analyze where i went wrong and what would make it better but i'd rather forget about it for now. The problem was obviously lack of thought.

Going to do dailies for a while, should be good exercise... :D

I'd like to post some sketches from a new sketchbook but an odd thing is happening with the scanner. After the usual contrast adjustment, pages turn out yellow and dingy, you can see every little booger on the paper. I'll figure this mess out...

I dunno if this is over yet, i may add more to the sequence. Here we have a few shots of a sci-fi space woman dancing, think it still needs a figure that really pops out, like a flashdance pose. Also, a friend of mine gave me a heads up to a great song recently, wolf like me- tv on the radio, it's a must find.

Fixed up and cleaned one of the girls from drawing last night, face turned out ok. I'm happy to say i just finished some freelance concept work, now i get to keep some Disney secrets. I thought the work turned out nice, I'd like to have a second crack at it though, but I'm always that way.

I can't stop drawing island girls ever since I saw Cast Away. Now granted hanks character was alone on the island, but if he had some pleasant company I doubt he would have wanted to leave. The tribal paint thing started after watching Rapa Nui, another great movie.

This is a WIP panel from the comic. I'm hoping that the panels read well and things don't come off as stale or just bad. I'd like it to have a cinematic quality, so i've been studying/watching movies lately. So far I'm finding backgrounds to be a pain in the butt, i'd like to chuck them all together. People read comics for the story anyway, right?

This particular part is in the begining when two soldiers are behaving badly.

I saw the klitchko fight over the weekend. After watching the first round I really didnt need to see the rest of the fight, it was obvious who was going to win. Klitchko is huge first of all, and he had a great strategy of keeping his jab out to create a nice distance for himself. Then if things started to get heated up he'd go into a hug so he could setup the jab again, worked perfect. One thing i noticed is that professional boxing is nothing like the rocky movies anymore, the refs have zero tolerance for any signs of gore or fatigue. The first rocky is one of my favorites, it should be really interesting to see where stalone takes the next one. If he makes it realistic, no way would a ref allow him to continue a fight with the kind of damage done in the other movies.

BTW i thought it was pretty cool to hear Byrd's family, specially his wife, cheer him on during the match. She was the loudest and wasnt yelling kill him or anything negative, she was giving boxing tips. Boxing feels more like a sport when hate isnt involved.
